2018 Zealquest Plant Physiology and Phenotype Breeding Workshop

April 12th-20th, Zealquest organized Plant Physiology and Phenotype Breeding Workshop in Beijing and Chengdu. Nearly 200 scientists from 50 institutes and universities attended the workshops.

In the workshops, the technicians from Zealquest and foreign partners introduced the principles, operation skills and applications of the physiological and phenotypic measurement instruments from WALZ, CID, Lemnatec and other partners. 8 invited speakers made wonderful reports during the workshop.

The workshop focuses on the skills and applications of those instruments.  The scientific topics include “Molecular and Phenotypic Breeding”, “Introduction and Application of Physiological and Ecological Measurement Technology”, “Agricultural Internet of Things”, “High-Throughput Phenotyping in Plants”, “Seed Breeding Technology”, “Roots Measurement Technology” and so on.

Fangfang Wu from the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a report about “Application of Near-surface Remote Sensing in Agriculture and Forestry Ecology”. Wu communicated with researchers about the latest research progress of remote sensing.

Liang Kou from Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a report about “Effect of nitrogen deposition on the dynamics of root growth”. Kou introduced the latest research progress of nitrogen deposition.

Wei Sun from Institute of Chinese Materia Medica of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences gave a report about “Application of mass spectrometric imaging in plant metabonomics”. Sun introduced the latest research progress of plant metabonomics.

Weijuan Hu from Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a report about “Imaging-based phenotyping to dissect complex traits in crops”. Hu communicated with researchers about the latest research progress of phenotyping in crops.

Nan Wu from Sichuan Agricultural Uniersity gave a report about “Biomonitoring heavy metal contaminations by chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in mosses”. Wu introduced the latest research progress of chlorophyll fluorescence in mosses.

Jianhui Wang from Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences gave a report about “Anthocyanin biosynthesis regulation in the fruit of Citrus sinensis cv. Tarocco”. Hu communicated with researchers about the latest research progress of anthocyanin biosynthesis regulation.

Dr. Oliver Meyerhoff from Heinz Walz GmbH gave a report about “WALZ devices and technique overview 2018”. Dr. Oliver Meyerhoff introduced the latest research progress of WALZ products. Dr. Edwin J. Reidel communicated with researchers about how to use the WALZ products to achieve the purposes of research and other academic questions.

Xuzhen Zhou from Jiuyu Bio gave a report about “Intelligent digital plant research platform”. Zhou communicated with researchers about the latest research progress of AI in plant research.

The technicians from Zealquest gave reports about “The latest application of phenotyping technology and the research projects”, “Pollen activity and seed quality analysis”, “Smart agriculture solution: AgriphenoCloud”, “The application of combining gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence measurement on photosynthesis research”, and so on.

Zealquest had booths in the workshops and showed the products and technologies from WALZ, LemnaTec, CID, Force-A, Felix, Conviron, Brooks, Agam and other partners. Many scientists took their instruments to the workshop and discussed with Zealquest technicians. The workshop is a good chance for those scientists to communicate the experiment experience and skills each other.
